The Safer Foundation, a nonprofit social impact organization based in Chicago, Illinois, was founded in 1972. Its mission is to reduce recidivism by supporting, through a full spectrum of services, the efforts of people with arrest and conviction records to become employed, law-abiding members of the community. If people with records are provided with direct service support focused on job preparedness and placement, and are also linked to other critical supportive services their reentry challenges will be addressed and, as a result, their likelihood to recidivate (return to prison) will be reduced.

Felicity Education partners with similar organizations locally, regionally and nationally to give second chance employment opportunities to those impacted by a justice experience.

Felicity School--The Education Model

Our Approach

Felicity Education works locally, regionally and nationally to find schools and districts with missions that include: integrated vocational programs, experiential learning, individualized programming, technology. and mentoring, so that we can partner to give students valuable training and workforce skills that will help them compete for jobs, post graduation.

Expectations

We ask three things of students interested in working.  One, they need to be current in their school work.  Two, they need to be receptive to working on a team and for learning new skills.  Lastly, they need to be able to be on time for work, execute on the work they have been trained on, and be consistent with their attendance.

Student Wages

Students are paid an hourly wage for their work and often get school culinary credit for their work.

Volunteer Opportunities

Become a volunteer with Felicity Educational Services and make a difference in the lives of those dealing with mental health issues. We offer a variety of opportunities to get involved and give back to your community.

Second City Snacks--The Wholesale Kitchen

Commissary/Wholesale Kitchen

We partner with Chicago-based Second City Snacks to work locally, regionally and nationally to set up small wholesale kitchens to serve local schools, hotels, hospitals, airports, grocery and convenience stores.

Grab and Go Sandwiches and Snacks

Our commissary kitchens produce grab and go breakfast and lunch items, including sandwiches, wraps, salads, and protein packs.

School Lunches

Our commissary kitchens produce and deliver hot lunches to schools and school districts, and a percentage of those sales go directly back to the school or district.

Catering--Corporate & Special Events

Our kitchen is able to provide full catering service for corporate events, community events, and special events like fund raisers, large family functions, or other large scale gatherings.

Second Chance Centers-- The Community Partner

Local Community Organizations

Felicity Education works with local, regional and national second chance centers, or organizations that assist in paving the path to reentry with the tools, training, and support needed to succeed. Services often include job readiness training and placement, educational programming, and advocacy interventions.

Job Placement

Often, local second chance centers assist with finding second chance, long-term employment in a career  with hands-on training and job placement assistance based on goals, interests, and skills.

Ongoing Support

Often reentry support and wellness interventions and services build an intellectual and emotional framework for successful reentry based on your unique needs discovered in our client assessment process.

Our mental health reentry programs build a supportive network for the justice involved, allowing you to overcome logistical hurdles to reentry, enhance your emotional intelligence, decode and challenge false narratives, and develop new strategies, resilience, and motivation when navigating the road ahead.
